I always use a condom, do I need to get tested?

As with all STIs, the most effective protection is to abstain from sexual activity or be monogamous with a single long-term partner who does not have an STI. Using latex condoms and dental dams can help reduce the risk of contracting or spreading the infection, but no protection method is perfect. Condoms can break, fall off, and do not fully protect against STDs that can be transmitted just from skin to skin contact such as herpes, syphilis (if sores are present), and HPV.

Anyone who is sexually active with more than one partner should be screened periodically, at least every six months.
